Worcester - Audio Journal, the radio service for blind individuals living in Worcester County, announced the receipt of a $15,000 grant awarded by the Greater Worcester Community Foundation from the H. Arthur Smith Fund and Discretionary Funds. The grant will be used to supplement the salary, training, adaptive equipment and administrative costs of a Development/Outreach Coordinator for the agency.
Jason Rufo of Spencer, who is blind, has filled the position for the agency. Mr. Rufo received an MBA from Anna Maria College in Paxton, graduating Summa Cum Laude. "His addition to the Audio Journal staff on a full-time basis strengthens our ability to raise awareness and funds to meet the needs of the agency and those we serve," according to Director Vincent Lombardi. "A qualified blind individual in that position provides an important direct connection to our listeners, and presents a compelling message for others to support our work. It would not have been possible without the assistance of the Greater Worcester Community Foundation."
Established in 1975, the Greater Worcester Community Foundation manages a $100 million endowment and more than 330 charitable funds. Over the last three decades, they have distributed grants and awards totaling more than $45 million.
